Twitter

Challenge To develop a PR-first idea that celebrates the retro gaming conversation on Twitter and the people driving those conversations.

Solution In order to spotlight the #RetroGaming conversation on Twitter, we will work with @_RetroGaming_ to insert a retro game emulator within the app. Users will be able to play 10 classic games from their childhoods. Before the Retro Entertainment System, retro gaming on Twitter was just a conversation—now it is an experience.

How It Works

A month prior to the launch of the emulator, the @_RetroGaming_ account will tweet out the Konami Code using a series of emojis.

The emulator is activated when the user types the code into the twitter search bar. It will be up to the users to figure out how to use the code to activate the emulator.

Once the user is done typing the code—Twitter will crash for a split second then reboot into the Retro Entertainment System.

The Hype

In order to gain traction—leading up to the launch date—the Retro Gaming account will send out a series of cryptic tweets. The tweets will hint at the Retro Entertainment System as well as provide the users with the launch date.

Ambient pieces will be set up around different cities to help bring the retro gaming world to life.

The games will come alive through the use of sound. As people walk by, classic sounds from each game will be played.

The pieces will be cryptic like the tweets—only providing enough information to get the audience interested and excited.
